One of the most popular projects for a backyard is a firepit. Whether it is to be used for cooking, burning waste or just to sit and watch the flames fire pits are popular additions. Getting yourself outside & under the stars!

Firepits are not that expensive to build and with more people looking to utilize more than just their deck and the grill that is there they are popping up all over. Some of these are quite elaborate and cost thousands of dollars to build. Besides of course your budget for such a project there are other things that you need to keep in mind like the amount of space that you have as well as any local ordinances. Some municipalities outright ban open burning so check with your municipality to find out before you start. The amount of space that is available should hopefully go without saying. Those sparks or embers can get caught in the wind and start a fire and no one wants to be that person so if there is not enough room away from homes or from the woods (with all of the loose brush) a firepit may not be a good idea.

Grindstone Outdoors - FirepitThere are several types of fire pits that could be installed. The easiest is a portable one that of course has the added benefit of being able to be taken to other locations. These are made from a variety of materials and have different looks. Permanent ones can use a natural fuel like wood or charcoal or a synthetic fuel like propane or gas. Some people like the smell that wood gives off when it burns and some people like being able to cook almost immediately so only you can decide which is right for you.

What kind of costs are involved?

Constructing a fire pit can be cheap. A hole has to be dug, filled in with stone and walled in with a non flammable material like stone. It can be done by yourself for around $200 if you are building a small one. If you are considering building a firepit the check out Grindstone Outdoors and we can answer your questions and show you the materials to use.
